The mouflon is an ungulate native to the mountains of Europe and Asia Minor that has been introduced in several regions of Spain. It is characterized by its medium size, dark brown coat in winter and reddish-brown in summer, and has a characteristic screw-shaped antlers.
In Spain, the mouflon is found in mountainous habitats, such as sierras and rocky areas. Mouflon hunting is very popular among hunters due to its beauty and its peculiar trophy. It is mainly hunted in the form of stalking and driven hunts.
The mouflon hunting season generally takes place mainly from October to February, although depending on the autonomous community and the type of hunting, the season can extend into the summer months. The most important time for stalking coincides with the rutting season in November-December.
